Vision

  • Cooperative Workspace

The Franklin Cooperative will offer flexible, low-cost, shared work spaces for startups, entrepreneurs, freelancers as well as established small businesses who are looking for a dynamic and creative work environment. This collaborative atmosphere will create new space in Argentine to unleash the talent of aspiring, young locals who might have otherwise relocated outside our neighborhood as well as attract others who can help reinvigorate business in Argentine.

  • Youth

For decades, youth enlivened the Franklin School with full-throated, joy-filled screams that gave the entire neighborhood the pleasure of being alive. From a safe place to stop after school to jumping on a computer or grabbing a ball and go outside to enjoy new play surfaces, fully-engaged and empowered youth are at the heart of the Franklin Center’s vision today. Youth can be a part of something bigger than themselves through volunteer and leadership initiatives that our friends and organizational partners Youthfront lead to help vulnerable people in our city and around the world. Even employment opportunities are possible where youth learn skills as interns catering events through food service, music, and hospitality.

  • Cafe

The Cafe at Franklin Center was an anchor of community life in Argentine where neighbors would drop in for coffee and run into familiar, warm faces. The Cafe will carry on that role of creating space and structure for shared life around honest food and drink. Youth will be stopping by after school once again, not only for milkshakes and ice cream but to access world-class internet with Google Fiber both for play and for homework.

  • Event & Reception Hall

The Franklin Center’s event hall will be the premier event space for quinceañera parties, corporate receptions, religious celebrations and family gatherings in Kansas City, Kansas. With dramatic windows overlooking the Kaw River, the event space will feature movable walls to accommodate events anywhere from intimate gatherings up to space for nearly 300 guests.

After extensive input through door-to-door interviews and “town hall” gatherings with neighbors across East Argentine, we brought this valuable information to our friends at Convergence Design just down the road from us in the West Bottoms. They put together these preliminary, schematic designs for the Franklin Center which we are using to refine our plans even further with the community.

Our plans feature:

  • Event & Reception Hall
  • Office & Work Space
  • Cafe
  • Space for Youth
